Greece Sees Mass Protests Against US-Israeli Strikes in Iran as Conflict Enters Second Month

Thousands of protesters flooded streets across Greece this weekend, demanding an end to the escalating US-Israeli military campaign against Iran. Demonstrations in Athens, Thessaloniki, and other cities saw diverse coalitions—including labor unions, student groups, and migrant communities—rally under banners calling for peace and domestic investment in social services over military spending.

In the capital, crowds gathered outside parliament before marching to the US Embassy, chanting slogans like "No to War, Yes to Education." Eirini Thanou, a protester, emphasized opposition to EU initiatives prioritizing military preparedness: "We stand with people, not weapons."

The conflict, now in its second month, has reportedly caused over 1,900 Iranian fatalities and 24,800 injuries, with 32 combined Israeli and US military deaths. Global markets remain volatile as oil prices surge, raising concerns about prolonged economic strain.

Kostas Asimakis, a demonstrator in Athens, warned of intergenerational consequences: "Greece gains nothing from this war—only losses." Protesters urged neutrality and criticized defense budget increases amid rising living costs.
