NASA's Artemis II astronauts have commenced final training at Florida's Kennedy Space Center ahead of humanity's first crewed lunar mission since 1972. The four-member team – NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen – could launch as soon as next week aboard the Space Launch System rocket.
The mission marks a crucial step in NASA's plan to establish sustainable lunar exploration by 2030. During their 10-day journey, the crew will test Orion capsule systems while completing a lunar flyby at distances not attempted since the Apollo era. "This flight paves the way for future moon bases and deeper space exploration," said Mission Commander Wiseman during Friday's arrival press conference.
With global interest surging, the mission represents growing international collaboration in space exploration. Canadian participation through Hansen highlights North America's joint efforts, while emerging Asian space programs watch closely for technological insights applicable to their own lunar ambitions.
