The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) revealed in its March 26, 2026 report that 391 personnel connected to its operations have been killed in Gaza since hostilities resumed in 2023. The casualties include 310 direct staff members and 81 support workers.
Despite ongoing security challenges, UNRWA has delivered over 16.7 million health consultations since October 2023, providing vital vaccinations, medical care, and psychological support to displaced populations. Approximately 67,000 people currently reside in 83 emergency shelters managed by the agency across the territory.
The report highlights operational hurdles, particularly in northern Gaza's Beit Lahia area where expansion of Israeli security zones has prevented the establishment of new medical facilities. UNRWA emphasized its continued role as the primary provider of education, healthcare, and social services to Palestinian refugees despite what it describes as "unprecedented operational challenges."
As the conflict enters its fourth year, humanitarian workers continue facing heightened risks while maintaining critical aid distribution networks. The agency's latest figures underscore the human cost of prolonged instability in the region.
