Chinese Ambassador to Cuba Hua Xin emphasized deepening cooperation between China and Latin American nations during a recent interview with CGTN, highlighting progress in trade, infrastructure, and multilateral diplomacy. The discussion comes as China expands its role in the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), with this year's meeting expected to address sustainable development and post-pandemic recovery strategies.
Ambassador Xin noted Cuba's central role in China's regional strategy, stating: "Our collaboration in biotechnology and pharmaceutical research has set a benchmark for South-South cooperation." He revealed that bilateral trade between China and Latin America grew 8.7% year-on-year in early 2026, with green energy projects accounting for 40% of new investments.
The diplomat also addressed China's approach to regional integration: "We're working with CELAC members to establish digital economy frameworks that benefit both Chinese and Latin American enterprises." This development follows the successful implementation of China's upgraded free trade agreement with Chile last month.
