Kim Jong Un Re-elected as DPRK State Affairs President in Key Assembly Session

Kim Jong Un has been re-elected as president of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), following a session of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA) on March 22, 2026. The decision, reported by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on March 23, solidifies his leadership amid ongoing political and economic developments in the region.

The first session of the 15th SPA also saw Jo Yong Won elected as chairman of the Standing Committee of the SPA, while Pak Thae Song assumed the role of premier of the Cabinet. Both officials were additionally appointed as first vice-president and vice-president of the State Affairs Commission, respectively.

Constitutional amendments were highlighted as a priority during the assembly, signaling potential policy shifts. Analysts suggest these revisions could address economic governance and national security frameworks, though official details remain undisclosed.

The developments come as the DPRK continues to navigate regional diplomacy and domestic challenges, drawing attention from global observers and neighboring APEC members.
