CELAC Summit 2026 Calls for End to Cuba Blockade, Urges Dialogue

The 10th Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) concluded in Bogotá, Colombia, on March 22, 2026, with member states adopting a unified declaration demanding an immediate end to the decades-long economic, commercial, and financial blockade against Cuba. The resolution aligns with longstanding United Nations resolutions and underscores growing regional solidarity.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla addressed the summit, emphasizing Cuba's 'struggle for dignity and freedom' amid ongoing challenges. He reiterated Havana's openness to 'serious and responsible dialogue' with the United States, provided such discussions respect mutual sovereignty and non-interference in domestic affairs.

The declaration reaffirmed the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, a framework adopted in 2014 to promote regional stability and sovereignty. Latin American media outlets, including Orinoco Tribune, highlighted the bloc's collective commitment to countering external pressures and fostering diplomatic solutions.

Analysts note the 2026 summit marks a pivotal moment for CELAC, as member states seek to strengthen multilateral mechanisms amid shifting global economic dynamics. The outcomes are expected to influence discussions at upcoming international forums, including the UN General Assembly later this year.
