Ukrainian Star Mahuchikh Soars to World Indoor High Jump Gold

Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslava Mahuchikh reclaimed her dominance in the sport on Friday, securing the women's title at the 2026 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Toruń, Poland. The world record holder cleared 2.01 meters on her first attempt, outpacing Australia's Nicola Olyslagers, Serbia's Angelina Topic, and compatriot Yuliia Levchenko, who shared silver after all cleared 1.99 meters.

Mahuchikh, now a four-time world indoor champion, attempted a 2.06-meter clearance to challenge her own world record but narrowly missed. Her victory underscores Ukraine's continued prominence in track and field amid global competitions.

In other events, American shot putter Chase Jackson dominated with a 20.14-meter throw – the sole mark surpassing 20 meters – while Italy's Andy Diaz Hernandez defended his men's triple jump crown with a world-leading 17.47 meters. The men's 60-meter sprint saw USA's Jordan Anthony blaze to gold in 6.41 seconds, edging out Jamaica's Krishane Thompson and Britain's Jeremiah Azu in a photo finish.
