Switzerland has suspended all war materiel exports to the United States, citing the latter’s involvement in ongoing Middle East hostilities, the Swiss Federal Council announced on March 21, 2026. The decision follows heightened regional tensions between the US, Israel, and Iran since late February this year.
In an official statement, Swiss authorities confirmed that no new export licenses for military equipment to the US have been approved since February 28, when clashes escalated in the region. The council emphasized that existing permits are under review by an interdepartmental expert group, which will determine if additional measures are required.
Switzerland’s long-standing policy of restricting arms sales to conflict zones has also maintained strict prohibitions on exports to Israel and Iran for several years. The latest move underscores Bern’s commitment to neutrality amid global security challenges, while analysts speculate on potential ripple effects for international defense supply chains.
