A devastating fire erupted at a car parts factory in Daejeon, the Republic of Korea, earlier today, injuring 53 workers and leaving 14 others unaccounted for. Approximately 170 employees were inside the facility when the fire broke out. Rescue teams faced critical challenges, including the threat of chemical explosions due to 200 kg of stored sodium and the risk of building collapse. Helicopters and over 200 firefighters were deployed, but access to the site remained limited as of late afternoon.
National Fire Agency officials confirmed 24 workers sustained serious injuries, with 29 others treated for minor wounds. Witnesses reported some employees jumped from upper floors to escape smoke-filled work areas. The factory complex, comprising two interconnected prefabricated structures, suffered severe damage, with one building completely destroyed.
