Russia’s Progress MS-31 Cargo Craft Concludes ISS Mission Safely

Russia's Progress MS-31 cargo spacecraft has successfully completed its eight-month mission at the International Space Station (ISS), with its remnants safely descending into a non-navigational zone of the Pacific Ocean, Roscosmos announced on March 17, 2026. The spacecraft undocked from the ISS at 4:24 p.m. Moscow time (1324 GMT) before executing a controlled deorbit maneuver and disintegrating upon atmospheric reentry.

Launched in July 2025, the Progress MS-31 delivered critical supplies to the ISS and supported ongoing research operations. Its departure marks the conclusion of a routine resupply cycle, underscoring Russia's continued role in maintaining the station's functionality. Roscosmos emphasized that all debris fell within pre-designated safe coordinates, minimizing environmental risks.

The mission's success highlights the enduring collaboration among global space agencies, including contributions from Asian partners like Japan and South Korea, which provide key technological components for ISS operations. Analysts note that such missions remain vital as nations explore sustainable deep-space exploration frameworks ahead of planned lunar initiatives later this decade.
