Sixteen-year-old Elkenah Gordon beams with pride as he recalls choosing table tennis over football four years ago. "This sport helped me control my emotions and improve physically and mentally," the London student told KhabarAsia.com during a training session at his school, where the rhythmic ping of balls echoed through the hall.
Gordon is among thousands participating in Britain's Greatest Rally – a nationwide initiative marking 50 days until the World Team Table Tennis Championships begin in London on May 2, 2026. The campaign aims to complete 100,000 rallies across UK schools and clubs, using the global event as a catalyst for youth engagement.
"The championships let people see table tennis' true potential," said Chris Brown, Table Tennis England's development head. "We're leveraging this momentum to attract new players and communities."
With over 40% of participants under 18, organizers highlight the sport's growing appeal among British youth. The championships will feature teams from more than 50 countries and regions, including the Chinese Taipei team and other Asian powerhouses.
