Bahrain’s state-owned energy giant Bapco Energies declared force majeure on its operations this week following an Iranian drone attack on its Sitra refinery, according to the Bahrain News Agency. The company assured that local fuel demand will remain unaffected, with supplies fully secured for domestic markets.
The attack, which occurred early Monday morning, injured 32 civilians, including four in critical condition. Among the injured were a 17-year-old girl with severe head and eye injuries, two children aged seven and eight with limb trauma, and a two-month-old infant. Bahrain’s Ministry of Health confirmed all casualties are Bahraini citizens.
Separately, Bahrain’s National Communication Center reported a fire at a Maameer industrial facility after another Iranian strike, causing material damage but no fatalities. Since hostilities escalated on February 28, the Bahrain Defense Force claims to have intercepted 95 ballistic missiles and 164 drones.
The incident underscores rising regional tensions impacting critical energy infrastructure. Analysts warn prolonged disruptions could strain global oil markets, though Bahrain’s immediate export commitments remain intact.
