300,000 Displaced in Lebanon as NRC Warns of Humanitarian Crisis

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) issued an urgent appeal to Israel this week, demanding the immediate reversal of mass evacuation orders in Lebanon that have displaced approximately 300,000 people since early March 2026. The agency warns that continued enforcement risks triggering a full-scale humanitarian catastrophe.

As of Friday, March 6, intensified airstrikes and sweeping evacuation directives across South Lebanon, Beirut’s southern suburbs, and other areas have forced families to flee within days. Over 95,000 displaced individuals are currently sheltering in overcrowded collective sites, according to NRC data.

The organization condemned Israel’s evacuation requirements as violations of international humanitarian law, which prohibits forced civilian displacement except under extreme circumstances. 'These orders leave families with impossible choices: risk staying in conflict zones or abandon their homes with no guarantee of return,' an NRC spokesperson stated.

Emergency operations have been scaled up, with relief teams distributing mattresses, blankets, and hygiene kits to affected communities. The crisis highlights growing regional instability as global observers monitor cross-border tensions.
