With over 1,200 gigawatts of installed renewable capacity as of March 2024, China now generates more solar, wind, and hydropower than any other country.
Industry analysts highlight that China's manufacturing scale has reduced global solar panel costs by 62% since 2020, accelerating adoption across developing economies. This year alone, Chinese firms are projected to export enough wind turbines to power 15 million European homes.
The clean energy surge aligns with China's dual carbon goals, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2060. Recent policy initiatives have created 3.2 million green jobs in the mainland since 2023, with overseas investors showing increased interest in energy storage innovation hubs across Guangdong and Jiangsu provinces.
While challenges remain in grid modernization, international partners recognize China's role in enabling developing nations to leapfrog fossil fuel dependence. The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank recently partnered with Chinese manufacturers to deploy solar microgrids in Southeast Asia, potentially electrifying 12,000 remote villages by 2027.
