Qatar Vows Firm Response to Iranian Military Escalation

Qatar has declared its military readiness and warned of decisive action following an unprecedented security escalation involving Iranian forces, according to statements from the Qatari Foreign Ministry on March 3, 2026. The announcement came after Qatari air defenses intercepted multiple ballistic missiles and drones, including two Iranian Sukhoi fighter jets, over the Arabian Gulf waters.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari confirmed the attacks targeted critical infrastructure such as Al Udeid Air Base and Hamad International Airport. "When our sovereignty is violated, all response options remain open," Al-Ansari stated during a press briefing, emphasizing that Qatar had received no prior notification from Tehran regarding the strikes.

The escalation has temporarily halted liquefied natural gas (LNG) production at QatarEnergy facilities in Mesaieed and Ras Laffan due to safety concerns. This disruption comes as global energy markets face renewed volatility, with Qatar accounting for 20% of worldwide LNG exports.

Qatari officials confirmed ongoing coordination with U.S. forces stationed at Al Udeid Air Base, noting that former U.S. President Donald Trump recently discussed security developments with Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Regional analysts suggest the incident could reshape Gulf security dynamics amid heightened tensions.
