U.S. Cities See Widespread Protests Over Iran Strikes, Political Backlash Grows

Anti-war demonstrations swept through major U.S. cities over the weekend, with thousands rallying against recent joint military actions by the United States and Israel targeting Iran. Protests in Washington, Chicago, Boston, New York, and Los Angeles highlighted growing public dissent, amplified by sharp criticism from prominent political figures.

Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris condemned the strikes in a social media post, accusing President Donald Trump of escalating tensions without public mandate. “Our troops are being put in harm’s way for the sake of Trump’s war of choice,” Harris wrote, reflecting broader concerns about constitutional oversight and strategic clarity.

U.S. Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer criticized the administration’s lack of transparency, stating, “President Trump’s fitful cycles of lashing out and risking wider conflict are not a viable strategy.” Democratic Senator Tim Kaine echoed these sentiments, calling the strikes a “dangerous, unnecessary, and idiotic action” that bypassed congressional authorization.

The military operation, launched on Saturday, has reignited debates about executive power and the risks of prolonged conflict in the Middle East. Senator Tammy Duckworth emphasized, “We were not under imminent attack when he launched his attack on Iran… This is not what Americans voted for.”

As tensions escalate, the protests underscore deepening divisions over U.S. foreign policy and its implications for regional stability.
