Middle East Tensions Hinge on U.S.-Israeli Strike Outcomes, Expert Warns

Middle East stability faces heightened uncertainty as the trajectory of regional conflicts now depends on the evolving results of recent U.S.-Israeli military actions, according to Tang Zhichao, director of the Center for Middle East Development and Governance Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

In a recent interview with CGTN, Tang identified three critical variables shaping the crisis: unclear U.S. strategic objectives, undefined parameters for retaliatory strikes, and unpredictable internal dynamics within Iran. The analyst emphasized that Tehran's weakening leadership and military coordination could significantly influence conflict escalation patterns.

Strategic Ambiguity Compounds Risks

Tang noted that Washington's undefined endgame complicates regional calculations, while the absence of clear strike boundaries raises concerns about unintended civilian casualties or infrastructure damage. This uncertainty comes as regional governments and international markets closely monitor energy supply routes through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran's Domestic Challenges

The expert highlighted that Tehran's capacity to manage internal dissent while responding to external pressures remains a wild card. This dual pressure could potentially alter traditional conflict resolution mechanisms in the region.
