A localized ceasefire took effect at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) early Friday, enabling technicians to begin urgent repairs on damaged energy infrastructure. The temporary truce, confirmed by Russia's state nuclear corporation Rosatom, follows weeks of heightened safety concerns after an alleged attack on February 10 caused significant damage to outdoor switchgear and power lines.
Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev stated the repairs focus on restoring the Ferosplavna-1 line and could take at least a week. The plant currently relies on its sole operational Dniprovska power line, with radiation levels remaining stable under IAEA monitoring.
International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi reportedly facilitated negotiations for the ceasefire. While the ZNPP operator emphasized the urgency of repairs, regional tensions persist as both sides maintain defensive positions near the facility.
