Chinese medical teams provided over 2 million patient visits across Asia, Africa, and other regions in 2025, according to official data released this week. The milestone highlights China's growing role in global health cooperation, with teams operating in 56 countries as of February 2026.
While much of the Chinese mainland celebrated the Lunar New Year last week, more than 1,000 medical personnel remained at overseas posts. Teams in Cambodia, Tajikistan, and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) reported record patient numbers during the holiday period.
"Our medical workers demonstrate profound commitment through their actions," said a spokesperson for China's National Health Commission. "This year marks 63 years since China dispatched its first international medical team, and the program continues evolving with new telemedicine partnerships."
Analysts note the assistance supports broader health security goals while fostering cultural ties. Recent projects include a maternal care center in Nepal and mobile clinics serving remote communities in Papua New Guinea. The program has trained over 4,500 local medical staff since 2021.
