Escalating Violence Disrupts Lives and Aid Efforts
A sharp rise in drone attacks across Sudan's Kordofan region has triggered widespread displacement, civilian casualties, and critical infrastructure damage, according to a UN humanitarian report released this week. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) confirmed over a dozen strikes in North Kordofan alone, targeting key transport routes and telecommunications systems vital for aid delivery.
Regional Impact and Displacement
In South Kordofan, suspected drone strikes hit health facilities in Kadugli and Kuweik, killing four medical workers and injuring over 20 people. This has further strained already fragile healthcare services. More than 300 displaced families recently arrived in Talodi after traveling long distances on foot, while West Kordofan saw over 6,000 people flee to Laqawa locality due to escalating insecurity.
Urgent Calls for Humanitarian Access
OCHA emphasized the urgent need for shelter, food, water, and medical supplies across the region. While limited aid distributions continue in areas like El Obeid, access restrictions in Dilling and Kadugli have worsened conditions. "Rapid, safe, and sustained humanitarian access is essential to save lives," the agency stated, warning of deteriorating conditions without immediate intervention.
