Iran Blames West’s ‘Wall of Distrust’ for Stalled Nuclear Talks

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has identified Western skepticism and U.S. negotiating demands as critical barriers to reviving nuclear negotiations, speaking at Wednesday's commemorations for the 47th anniversary of Iran's Islamic Revolution in Tehran. The remarks come amid heightened regional tensions and ongoing efforts to restore the 2015 nuclear accord.

"The wall of distrust built by Western powers, coupled with excessive American conditions, continues to obstruct progress," Pezeshkian stated during his address to thousands gathered in Azadi Square. Observers note this marks Tehran's first high-level commentary on nuclear diplomacy in 2026, as both sides remain divided over sanctions relief and uranium enrichment limits.

While U.S. officials maintain they seek a "mutually verifiable agreement," European mediators have reportedly intensified shuttle diplomacy this month. The stalemate persists despite recent economic pressures on Iran, including renewed energy sector sanctions imposed by Washington last quarter.
