Iran and U.S. Pledge Continued Dialogue After Oman Talks

Iran and the United States have agreed to continue nuclear negotiations following indirect talks in Muscat that concluded on February 6, 2026, described by Iranian officials as a "good start." The discussions marked the first diplomatic engagement since U.S. airstrikes targeted Iranian nuclear facilities in June 2025.

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi characterized the atmosphere as "positive," telling reporters both sides will consult their respective capitals before determining next steps. "Refraining from threats and pressure remains essential for productive dialogue," Araghchi emphasized, according to Fars News Agency.

The negotiations focused exclusively on nuclear matters, with Tehran declining to address other bilateral issues. Oman played a key mediating role, with Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi facilitating communication between the delegations.

Notably, Washington announced new sanctions targeting Iranian entities on the same day as the talks concluded. Analysts suggest this dual approach reflects ongoing tensions despite diplomatic progress.
