Iran and U.S. Agree to Continue Negotiations Following Muscat Talks

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi announced on Friday that Tehran and Washington have reached a preliminary agreement to continue diplomatic negotiations following indirect talks in Muscat, Oman. The discussions, described by Araghchi as "a good start," occurred amid heightened regional tensions and global economic uncertainties in early 2026.

"Both sides expressed willingness to maintain dialogue channels," Araghchi told Fars News Agency, emphasizing the "positive atmosphere" of the meetings. The Iranian delegation leader confirmed that representatives will now consult with their respective governments before determining the timeline and format for future engagements.

This development comes as energy markets show increased volatility, with analysts closely watching how potential diplomatic breakthroughs might affect oil exports from the Persian Gulf. The Muscat talks mark the first publicly acknowledged contact between Iranian and U.S. officials this year, though neither side has disclosed specific agenda items.
