Gaza Casualties Surge as Medical Evacuations Continue via Rafah Crossing

UN humanitarian agencies report escalating casualties in Gaza amid ongoing medical evacuations through the Rafah border crossing. The Gaza-based Ministry of Health documented dozens of fatalities and injuries in the past 24 hours, as critical patients continue seeking treatment abroad.

Evacuation Efforts Intensify

Over 50 patients and companions crossed into Egypt this week through coordinated UN operations. The World Health Organization facilitated two medical evacuations on February 5-6, transporting 15 patients and 31 companions to Egyptian healthcare facilities. UN teams provided psychological support and medical triage at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis before transfers.

Systemic Challenges Persist

While evacuation numbers rise, UN officials emphasize persistent operational hurdles. 'We're working to ensure safer, more dignified transfers for all requiring care,' stated an OCHA representative. The WHO prioritizes expanding Gaza's crippled health infrastructure through urgent supply deliveries and facility rehabilitation.

West Bank Displacement Crisis

Separately, OCHA reports over 900 Palestinians displaced in the West Bank since January 2026 due to escalating settler violence and movement restrictions. More than 50 attacks causing casualties or property damage were recorded in the past three weeks, prompting urgent needs assessments.
