China’s ‘AI Plus’ Initiative Set to Transform Daily Life and Economy

As China prepares for its annual Two Sessions meetings starting March 5, artificial intelligence has emerged as a cornerstone of national development strategies. The 2026 political gatherings – comprising the National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference – are expected to formalize ambitious plans to integrate AI deeper into economic and social frameworks.

Observers anticipate new policies under the "AI Plus" campaign to accelerate smart manufacturing upgrades and AI-powered public services. Recent pilot programs in Shanghai and Shenzhen already demonstrate AI applications streamlining healthcare diagnostics and optimizing urban transportation networks.

"This year's focus will likely bridge technological innovation with practical implementation," said tech policy analyst Li Wei, noting that 72% of Chinese manufacturers have adopted some form of AI-driven automation as of February 2026. The initiative aligns with China's broader push to develop "new quality productive forces" through strategic emerging industries.

While details remain undisclosed until the official meetings, industry insiders suggest emphasis on cross-sector collaboration between tech giants, research institutions, and traditional industries. Cybersecurity measures and ethical AI development frameworks are also expected to feature prominently in discussions.
