Boko Haram-Linked Attack in Nigeria’s Kwara State Leaves 35 Dead

At least 35 people were killed in a brutal attack on Woro village in Nigeria's Kwara State this week, with authorities linking the violence to Boko Haram-affiliated militants. The assault, which occurred late Tuesday evening, targeted the rural community in Kaiama Local Government Area, leaving homes, shops, and the traditional ruler's palace in ruins.

Local lawmaker Sa'idu Baba Ahmed reported that attackers set fire to critical infrastructure, including food storage facilities, exacerbating humanitarian concerns. Between 35 and 40 fatalities have been confirmed, though Ahmed warned the toll could rise as search efforts continue for missing residents. Many survivors fled into nearby bushland, some with gunshot wounds, while the whereabouts of the village's traditional leader remain unknown.

Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq condemned the attack, calling it a "cowardly expression of frustration" by militants responding to intensified counterterrorism operations. Police have yet to release official casualty figures, but the state government attributed the violence to "terrorist cells" operating in the region.

The incident highlights ongoing security challenges in West Africa, drawing attention to regional counterterrorism efforts and the humanitarian impact of such attacks on vulnerable communities.
