World Laureates Summit Opens in Dubai: Science as Governance Blueprint

In a landmark convergence of intellect and governance, the World Laureates Summit (WLS) opened today in Dubai, gathering over 150 of the world's most eminent scientists, policymakers, and institutional leaders. Convened alongside the 2026 World Governments Summit, this three-day assembly aims to forge direct links between foundational scientific discovery and the architecture of global governance.

Organized by the World Laureates Association (WLA), the event centers on the theme "Basic Sciences: Scientific Consensus for Addressing the Challenges of Humanity." Nobel laureates and recipients of the Turing, Wolf, and Fields awards will collaborate to ground international policy in rigorous science, with UAE Minister of State for AI Omar Sultan Al Olama declaring in his opening address: "Global governance must be guided by scientific thinking."

A key outcome is the WLA's white paper, "Vision 2050 for a Scientific Civilization," which outlines a framework for evidence-based policymaking amid rapid AI, energy, and health transformations. The summit's agenda spans AI, brain science, genomics, and blockchain, culminating in direct dialogues between scientists and heads of state on February 3.
