As of January 2026, the initiative has revitalized key urban areas with widened roads, modern infrastructure, and green public spaces, positioning the city as a model for sustainable urban renewal in Africa.
The project's emphasis on pedestrian-friendly zones, cycling lanes, and upgraded utilities has significantly improved daily life for residents. Anna Waldmann, a foreign resident, noted: "The parks and playgrounds enhance quality of life, while bike lanes and well-lit streets make evenings safer."
Parallel efforts like the 56-kilometer Riverside Development Project have converted polluted riverbanks into vibrant recreational hubs. Veteran tour guide Tesfayesus Yakob observed: "Areas once considered dangerous are now green attractions drawing tourists. Visitors from just a year ago barely recognize the city."
City officials report reduced traffic congestion and improved public health outcomes, attributing these gains to the projects' forward-looking design. With Ethiopia's economy growing at 6% annually, the upgrades aim to accommodate future urban expansion while preserving community accessibility.
