China Urges U.S. to Avoid ‘Military Adventurism’ in Iran at UN Council

China's permanent representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, issued a stark warning this week against escalating tensions in the Middle East during a UN Security Council session addressing Iran. Speaking on January 28, Fu emphasized that 'war clouds [are] gathering' following recent U.S. threats of military action.

'China opposes interference in internal affairs and rejects the use or threat of force in international relations,' Fu stated, urging all parties to adhere to the UN Charter's principles. The diplomat called on Washington to abandon any 'military adventurism' that could 'push the region into an unpredictable abyss.'

The remarks come amid heightened regional instability, with China positioning itself as a voice for diplomatic resolution. Fu stressed that the U.S. and other stakeholders should prioritize peace-building measures over actions that 'fan the flames' of conflict.

Analysts suggest Beijing's intervention reflects its growing role as a mediator in global hotspots, particularly in energy-critical regions like the Middle East. The appeal aligns with China's longstanding foreign policy framework emphasizing multilateralism and non-intervention.
