USDP Secures Majority in Myanmar’s 2026 Parliamentary Elections

Myanmar's Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) has claimed a decisive victory in the nation's three-phase general election, securing 339 of 664 parliamentary seats according to final results released by the Union Election Commission (UEC) on January 30, 2026. The results position the USDP to dominate both chambers of the Union Parliament as the country enters a new political chapter.

The party won 231 seats in the 440-member Pyithu Hluttaw (Lower House) and 108 seats in the 224-seat Amyotha Hluttaw (Upper House), achieving majority control through elections held across 263 townships between December 2025 and January 2026. The phased voting process concluded on January 25, with final tallies showing the USDP claiming 80.7% of contested seats.

This election marks Myanmar's first nationwide parliamentary contest since 2020, with 420 elective positions available across both houses. Political analysts are now assessing how the USDP's strengthened parliamentary presence might influence economic policies and regional relations in Southeast Asia.
