Landslide in Bandung Claims 11 Lives, Rescue Efforts Ongoing

A landslide struck Bandung in Indonesia's West Java Province on January 25, 2026, killing at least 11 people as search and rescue operations continue into the night. Local authorities confirmed the death toll could rise as teams comb through debris in heavy rain.

Indonesian National Police spokesperson Senior Commissioner Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko stated emergency responders are prioritizing evacuation of trapped residents and stabilizing landslide-prone slopes. 'We are coordinating with disaster agencies to prevent further casualties,' he said during a press briefing.

The landslide, triggered by days of torrential rainfall, buried homes in Cimaung District shortly after dawn. Over 200 personnel from the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) and military are deployed, using heavy machinery to clear mudslides blocking access roads.

Bandung Regional Disaster Management Agency has relocated 47 families to temporary shelters, while medical teams treat survivors for minor injuries. The incident highlights growing climate resilience challenges in Indonesia's mountainous regions during the current monsoon season.
