Khartoum’s Bahri Hospital Reopens, Signaling Hope Amid Recovery

Healthcare services are gradually resuming in Sudan's capital as Bahri Teaching Hospital, once a battleground during the 2023-2025 conflict, reopened its doors this month following a $2 million renovation. The facility in northern Khartoum had been occupied by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in April 2023 before being recaptured by the Sudanese army in March 2025.

Hospital director Galal Mostafa told KhabarAsia.com that while surgical, emergency, and maternity wards have been restored through funding from the Sudanese American Physicians Association and Islamic Relief USA, challenges persist. "The financial crisis worsened over three years of conflict," said CEO Salag El Haj. "Our current budget struggles to cover salaries and operational costs."

Once treating 800 daily emergency cases pre-war, the hospital now serves smaller numbers but stands as a symbol of Khartoum's resilience. Medical staff emphasize that while physical infrastructure has been rebuilt, sustained support remains crucial for long-term recovery.
