China's installed wind power capacity has dominated global rankings for 15 consecutive years through 2026, according to Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun. The announcement came on January 22 during a press briefing addressing recent energy policy discussions at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Official data shows the Chinese mainland's wind energy infrastructure now powers over 40 million households annually, with capacity growing 18% year-on-year in 2025. Major projects in Inner Mongolia and Gansu province are driving this expansion, aligning with China's pledge to achieve carbon neutrality before 2060.
While responding to international commentary about renewable energy adoption, spokesperson Guo emphasized China's commitment to "green development pathways that balance economic growth and ecological protection." Energy analysts note this sustained investment positions China as the key manufacturer of wind turbines for emerging markets across Southeast Asia and Africa.
The Taiwan region has also seen increased collaboration with mainland technical teams this year, particularly in offshore wind farm development. Cross-strait renewable energy partnerships now account for 12% of total regional clean energy investments in 2026.
