Egypt Joins Trump’s ‘Board of Peace’ Initiative in 2026

Egypt has officially accepted an invitation to join former U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed "Board of Peace," a diplomatic mechanism aimed at resolving conflicts in Gaza and other global hotspots. The announcement, made on January 21, 2026, underscores Cairo’s strategic alignment with international peace efforts while balancing its regional priorities.

Egypt’s foreign ministry confirmed President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s participation, emphasizing compliance with domestic legal frameworks and the United Nations Security Council’s mandate. The ministry praised the initiative’s mission to advance a "comprehensive plan" for Gaza, citing Trump’s role in brokering a 2025 ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

El-Sisi’s endorsement coincides with his attendance at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where he positioned Egypt as a stabilizer in the Middle East. He highlighted Lebanon’s recent steps to curb non-state armed groups and called for inclusive political processes in Syria. "The Palestinian cause remains central to regional stability," he stated, reiterating Cairo’s long-standing stance.

While details of the Board of Peace remain sparse, Egypt’s involvement signals cautious optimism for multilateral diplomacy in 2026. Analysts note the move aligns with Cairo’s efforts to leverage global partnerships while addressing domestic economic challenges and cross-strait humanitarian concerns in Gaza.
