Hamas Announces Readiness for Gaza Administrative Transition Amid Ongoing Tensions

Hamas declared on Monday its preparedness to transfer administrative authority to a newly formed Palestinian technocratic committee, marking a critical step in Gaza's post-war governance framework. The group emphasized its commitment to ensuring a "smooth and orderly transition" that safeguards public sector operations and essential services for civilians, according to a statement from its media office.

The 15-member committee, which began operations in Cairo last Friday, prioritizes addressing Gaza's urgent humanitarian needs. Its launch followed delays attributed to Israeli obstruction, as reported by Egyptian sources. The transition aligns with Phase Two of the Gaza peace agreement, contingent on a full cessation of Israeli military activities in the region.

Despite the ceasefire enacted in October 2025, violence persists. Gaza Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmoud Basal reported three Palestinian fatalities in Khan Younis and Rafah on Monday, condemning Israeli strikes on civilian areas as violations of international law. Local sources also documented airstrikes near Khan Younis and residential demolitions in eastern Gaza.

Health authorities in Gaza confirmed Monday that at least 465 Palestinians have been killed since last October's ceasefire, bringing the total death toll to 71,550 since hostilities began in October 2023. Hamas reiterated its demand for reconstruction efforts that uphold Palestinian sovereignty and advance the establishment of an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
