Trump Proposes $1B Fee for Permanent Peace Board Seats

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly proposed a $1 billion fee for countries seeking permanent membership on a newly envisioned 'Board of Peace,' according to a draft charter obtained by Bloomberg News this week. The initiative, described as a global conflict-resolution body, marks Trump's latest effort to reshape international diplomacy amid longstanding criticism of the United Nations.

The draft charter states that member states contributing $1 billion in cash funds within the board's first year would secure permanent seats exempt from the standard three-year term limit. Trump would serve as the board's inaugural chair, with authority to appoint members and renew terms. While the body is framed as addressing global conflicts broadly, observers speculate it could position itself as an alternative to UN mechanisms.

Analysts note the proposal raises questions about the balance between financial influence and equitable multilateral engagement. "This model risks conflating fiscal capacity with diplomatic legitimacy," said one Asia-based geopolitical researcher, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the topic. White House officials have not yet commented on the reported plan.

The development comes as governments worldwide assess how such a board might interact with existing institutions like the UN Security Council. Regional stakeholders in Asia, including the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the Republic of Korea, are closely monitoring discussions given ongoing tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
