Oman's transportation minister initiated a historic flight this week as China's Archer large unmanned transport aircraft delivered 60 kg of medical supplies across the Hajar Mountains to a remote town. Completed in under 50 minutes, this mission marks the first commercial logistics operation by a Chinese large UAV in the Middle East, signaling a breakthrough in regional supply chain solutions.
Conquering Geographic Barriers
The mountainous destination, previously accessible only via three-hour off-road journeys, now receives critical supplies through autonomous flights. This Sky Bridge project, developed by Kunshan-based Times Flying Phoenix Technology, demonstrates how Chinese low-altitude logistics systems can overcome infrastructure limitations in challenging terrain.
Mastering Harsh Environments
Prior to deployment, engineers tested the UAV in China's Xinjiang Flaming Mountains during July 2025, replicating Middle Eastern conditions with temperatures exceeding 45°C and frequent sandstorms. These trials proved the aircraft's ability to maintain stability in extreme weather patterns common across Gulf Cooperation Council states.
Regional Expansion Blueprint
Backed by Oman's transport and health authorities, Times Flying Phoenix plans to establish permanent operations centers across the Middle East. The company aims to scale applications for medical emergencies, maritime rescue, and commercial logistics, aligning with China's Belt and Road Initiative priorities in technological cooperation.
