China, Tanzania Strengthen Ties During Wang Yi’s Dar es Salaam Visit

China and Tanzania pledged to deepen bilateral cooperation during Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi's visit to Dar es Salaam on January 10, 2026. Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan praised China's role in African development through the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation framework, calling Beijing "a steadfast and reliable partner."

The discussions highlighted plans to revitalize the historic Tanzania-Zambia Railway as part of infrastructure modernization efforts. President Hassan reaffirmed Tanzania's adherence to the one-China principle and commitment to aligning development strategies with Chinese initiatives.

Wang Yi, representing the Communist Party of China, emphasized the "shared destiny" between the nations. Both sides agreed to enhance inter-party collaboration between the CPC and Tanzania's ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi party, while expanding cultural exchanges and economic coordination.

The Chinese foreign minister outlined plans to transform the Tanzania-Zambia Railway into a regional economic engine, stating: "This revitalized corridor will serve as both a development driver and symbol of friendship." Tanzania expressed support for China's four global initiatives aimed at reforming international governance systems.
