Iran, Cuba, Brazil Condemn US Military Action in Venezuela; Call for UN Response

Iran, Cuba, and Brazil have issued a unified condemnation of the United States' military intervention in Venezuela this week, labeling it a "flagrant violation" of international law during high-level diplomatic calls. The coordinated response comes after US forces reportedly seized Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife on Saturday, escalating regional tensions.

Diplomatic Pushback Gains Momentum

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi held urgent discussions with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla and Brazil’s Mauro Vieira, denouncing Washington’s actions as "dangerous law-breaking" that undermines global order. Araghchi warned that unilateral military aggression risks normalizing force over diplomacy, urging the UN and member states to oppose the move decisively.

Regional Security at Stake

Rodríguez condemned the US operation as an "illegal invasion" threatening Caribbean stability, while Vieira confirmed plans to challenge the action through the UN Security Council and regional bodies. All three ministers emphasized strengthening cooperation among developing nations and multilateral groups like the Non-Aligned Movement to counter unilateralism.

Background: Rising Tensions

The US has maintained a naval presence near Venezuela since early 2025 under anti-narcotics pretexts, which Caracas claims masks regime-change ambitions. Saturday’s military strike marks a dramatic escalation, with Maduro’s reported transfer to US custody raising questions about Venezuela’s political future.
