Trump, Zelenskyy Advance Ukraine Peace Talks Following Putin Call

U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy convened at Mar-a-Lago on December 29, 2025, to discuss a 20-point peace plan aimed at resolving the ongoing Ukraine crisis. The meeting followed a confirmed telephone conversation between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier that day, which Trump described as "very productive" in a Truth Social post.

The proposed framework includes a ceasefire timetable, demilitarized zone proposals, management of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear facility, and security guarantees for Ukraine. Trump noted that approximately 95% of the plan's terms have gained consensus among involved parties, though "thorny issues" regarding territorial control in Donbas remain unresolved.

Zelenskyy emphasized alignment with U.S. and European partners on security assurances, stating, "We discussed all aspects of the peace framework." The leaders also engaged NATO and EU representatives during their deliberations, signaling coordinated international efforts.

While no formal agreement was signed, both leaders expressed cautious optimism about accelerating progress toward ending the conflict that has persisted since 2022. The meeting marks the latest development in a series of diplomatic initiatives this year to address one of Europe's most protracted modern crises.
