China Condemns Japanese Lawmakers’ Taiwan Visit, Urges Restraint

China has lodged a formal complaint with Japan following a visit by Japanese legislators to the Taiwan region, calling the move a violation of bilateral agreements and a breach of the one-China principle. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated on Monday, December 22, 2025, that the visit undermined regional stability and demanded immediate corrective action from Tokyo.

Lin emphasized that Japan's actions contravened the spirit of the four foundational political documents governing China-Japan relations, as well as Japan's longstanding commitment to the one-China policy. He urged Japanese authorities to 'refrain from interfering in China's internal affairs' and to avoid further complicating cross-strait ties. Analysts suggest the diplomatic friction could impact ongoing economic negotiations between the two Asian powers.
