App Developers Demand EU Action Against Apple’s ‘Unfair’ Fees

European Tech Sector Calls for DMA Enforcement

A coalition of 20 app developers and consumer groups has intensified pressure on EU regulators to address Apple's fee practices, alleging systemic bias against European firms under the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The dispute centers on Apple's revised transaction fees ranging from 13% to 20% for in-app purchases, implemented after a 500 million euro EU fine earlier this year.

Transatlantic Disparity Sparks Outcry

The Coalition for Apps Fairness (CAF) claims U.S. developers now enjoy more favorable terms following a recent court ruling restricting Apple's fee imposition on external transactions. "European businesses face an impossible choice: absorb unsustainable costs or inflate consumer prices," said CAF's Gene Burrus, urging the European Commission to enforce "free of charge" DMA provisions.

Innovation at Stake

With Apple's promised January policy revisions remaining undefined, developers warn of continued market distortion. The CAF's statement accuses the tech giant of creating "an untenable situation that stifles competition" in Europe's app economy, six months after the EU declared Apple's practices non-compliant.
