Arab League Condemns Sudan Drone Strike Killing 63 Children

The Arab League has denounced Thursday's drone attack in Sudan's South Kordofan state as war crimes, after confirmation that 114 civilians – including 63 children – died in the Kalogi city strike. The Cairo-based organization stated the assault violated international humanitarian law and threatened Sudan's territorial integrity, demanding immediate independent investigations.

South Kordofan Governor Mohamed Ibrahim Abdel Karim confirmed Sunday the death toll rose to 114 with 71 injured, warning numbers might increase. Sudanese authorities allege coordination between the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in targeting civilian areas, though neither group has claimed responsibility.

This incident exacerbates the humanitarian catastrophe stemming from the April 2023 outbreak of fighting between Sudan's military and RSF. UN agencies report intensified violence in Kordofan region this month, displacing thousands and straining aid operations. The conflict has now displaced millions nationwide, creating what experts call one of 2025's most severe humanitarian emergencies.

Analysts note the drone strike's high civilian casualties could intensify international pressure for conflict resolution, particularly from Arab states increasingly concerned about regional stability. Humanitarian organizations are urgently appealing for safe corridors to deliver essential supplies to affected communities.
