China and Canada strengthened economic ties through a high-level trade forum in Toronto on December 1, marking their most significant commercial engagement since President Xi Jinping met Canadian Prime Minister Carney in Gyeongju earlier this year. Over 150 business leaders and policymakers attended the event, co-led by Ren Hongbin, Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT).
Ren emphasized the CCPIT's commitment to fostering stable China-Canada economic relations through expanded trade and cross-sector collaboration. "We must seize opportunities in clean energy, automotive electronics, and tech innovation while maintaining traditional cooperation," he stated during his keynote address.
Canadian business representatives highlighted the strategic timing of the forum amid global supply chain realignments. Multiple sessions focused on integration opportunities within China's 4th International Supply Chain Expo, with particular attention to advanced manufacturing and sustainable energy sectors.
The dialogue concluded with both sides agreeing to establish working groups for implementing concrete cooperation projects in early 2026, signaling renewed momentum in bilateral economic relations.
