Nigeria Rescues 24 Abducted Schoolgirls; Security Concerns Rise

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu confirmed on November 25, 2025, the safe release of 24 schoolgirls abducted by suspected terrorists in Kebbi state earlier this month. The students, kidnapped from their dormitory on November 17, were reunited with their families following what authorities described as a coordinated security operation.

Kebbi Governor Nasir Idris stated the girls were unharmed and receiving medical and psychological support. The incident, however, triggered a wave of copycat kidnappings in central Nigeria last week, including the abduction of 38 worshippers in Kwara and over 300 students in Niger state. While most victims have since been freed, the surge in violence has intensified calls for stronger security measures.

President Tinubu emphasized the need to deploy additional forces to high-risk areas, stating, "We must prioritize the safety of our citizens and prevent further tragedies." The rescues come amid growing scrutiny of Nigeria’s counterterrorism strategies, particularly in rural regions where armed groups remain active.
