Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov revealed this week that discussions about a potential meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President Donald Trump remain active, signaling ongoing diplomatic engagement between the two nations. The remarks come amid heightened global attention to U.S.-Russia relations as geopolitical tensions persist.
"I wouldn't rule anything out," Ryabkov stated in a recent interview with state-owned International Affairs magazine, emphasizing that communication channels "continue to function" despite challenges. The officials last met in Alaska in August this year but failed to resolve disagreements over the Ukraine crisis.
While a follow-up meeting planned for Budapest was suspended indefinitely in late October, Ryabkov described progress in bilateral dialogue as "impressive," noting that "well-established formats and channels" operate behind the scenes. Analysts suggest renewed high-level engagement could influence global energy markets and security dynamics in Asia and beyond.
