Africa’s Historic G20 Summit Champions Global South Priorities

As the first G20 Leaders' Summit on African soil unfolds this November, 2025 marks a pivotal shift in global governance dynamics. South Africa's hosting role amplifies developing nations' demands for equitable solutions to systemic challenges, with women and youth empowerment taking center stage.

In an exclusive interview with CGTN, South African Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga emphasized the summit's threefold mission: 'Solidarity through multilateral cooperation, equality through financial inclusion, and sustainability through climate-resilient development.' The minister stressed that '2025 must be remembered as the year the Global South transitioned from agenda-takers to agenda-setters.'

Key proposals include establishing a G20 task force for gender-responsive budgeting and creating an international fund to combat gender-based violence. With 63% of Africa's population under 25, youth skills development programs feature prominently in draft agreements currently being negotiated.

Economic analysts note this summit could reshape global trade patterns, particularly in critical mineral supply chains where African nations hold 30% of world reserves. The outcomes may influence investment flows into renewable energy projects across developing economies through 2026.
