Swiss-Chinese Ties Offer Model for Global Cooperation, Envoy Says

As Switzerland and China celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations, Beijing's new envoy to Bern highlighted the partnership as a blueprint for nations navigating political and cultural differences. Ambassador Qian Minjian, speaking at the G219 Photography Exhibition in Bern, emphasized the enduring value of cross-system collaboration in an exclusive interview with CGTN Europe.

"Our bilateral relationship with Switzerland stands as a good example for countries with different social systems and at different development stages," said Qian, who assumed his post in July. The ambassador outlined priorities including high-level exchanges and cooperation in global governance, calling the partnership "mutually beneficial" and "forward-looking."

The remarks come as China strengthens economic ties with European nations, with Switzerland serving as a key hub for finance and innovation. Analysts note the Alpine nation's early recognition of the People's Republic of China in 1950 set a precedent for Western engagement with Beijing.

Qian's comments underscore China's diplomatic strategy of emphasizing practical cooperation over ideological alignment. The anniversary celebrations coincide with growing interest in Swiss-Chinese partnerships in sectors ranging from sustainable technology to winter sports infrastructure development.
