China Renews Typhoon Fengshen Alert as Storm Threatens South

China's National Meteorological Center renewed a yellow typhoon alert on Wednesday as Fengshen, the 24th typhoon of the year, continues its path toward southern coastal regions. The storm is forecast to bring sustained winds of up to 118 km/h and torrential rainfall to parts of Hainan, Guangdong, and Guangxi through Friday.

Authorities have advised residents in affected areas to avoid coastal activities and prepare for potential flooding. Ferry services between Hainan and the Chinese mainland have been temporarily suspended, while fishing boats have been recalled to harbors. 'We urge all localities to strengthen flood prevention measures and ensure public safety,' stated a spokesperson from the Ministry of Emergency Management.

The typhoon's approach coincides with peak harvest seasons in southern agricultural zones, raising concerns about crop damage. Analysts suggest the storm could temporarily disrupt logistics in key manufacturing hubs like the Pearl River Delta, though most factories have implemented contingency plans.

Meteorologists note that Fengshen follows an unusually active typhoon season, with seven storms making landfall in China this year. Climate researchers highlight warming sea temperatures as a contributing factor to the increased storm intensity observed across the Asia-Pacific region.
