China Backs Pakistan-Afghanistan Ceasefire for Regional Stability

China has expressed strong support for a temporary ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan, calling the move a critical step toward fostering regional peace. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized Beijing’s endorsement during a press briefing on Thursday, stating the agreement aligns with both nations’ interests and broader stability in South Asia.

“China welcomes and supports this decision,” Lin said, highlighting the importance of dialogue in resolving disputes. “We encourage Pakistan and Afghanistan to maintain restraint, pursue lasting peace, and address differences through constructive communication.”

As a neighbor to both countries, China reiterated its commitment to facilitating improved bilateral relations. Lin noted that Beijing stands ready to play a “constructive role” in advancing regional cooperation, underscoring the interconnectedness of security and economic development in Asia.

The ceasefire announcement comes amid heightened regional tensions, with analysts noting China’s growing diplomatic influence in conflict resolution. Observers suggest the move could bolster cross-border trade and investment opportunities, particularly under initiatives like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
